Orange Dream Cookies

Delicious and aromatic orange cookies that are perfect for tea. This is sort of a shortbread cookie that is not overly sweet and has a fresh citrus flavor that make sit a perfect choice to satisfy a sweet tooth.

This is day one of making a cookie a day for 20 days this Christmas season. I usually spend one day making a few different kinds but I thought I would spread it out and try new cookies that I haven’t had before.


Orange Dream Cookies



  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter softened (12 tablespoons)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsps orange juice
  • dash orange oil optional


  • 4 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 4-5 tbsp orange juice
  • orange zest


  1. Zest and juice orange.

  2. Beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and vanilla sugar until combined. 

  3. Add egg, orange juice, and orange oil. Mix until combined.

  4. Add flour and mix until combined.

  5. Spread dough onto cling film. Form into tight log, seal, and refrigerate for last least 30 minutes.

  6. Preheat oven to 350 F.

  7. Remove dough from refrigerator. Slice into 1/8 -1/4 inch discs. Line on baking sheet or silicone mat.

  8. Bake for 12 minutes.

  9. While cookies cool prepare icing by mixing orange juice with confectioners' sugar until desired consistency is reached.

  10. Spoon icing onto cookie and sprinkle with orange zest. Enjoy!
